Last Friday evening, 7 November 2014 at Queens Hall, Parliament House, a number of African Australians were honoured for their achievements. Santilla Chingaipe was awarded for her outstanding journalism, while Ducere's own Rugare Gomo received the ‘African Pioneer of the Year' Award.
The Australia Awards is the cornerstone of the Australian Government's development assistance program for Africa. It provides access to postgraduate education, training and professional development opportunities for suitably qualified Africans from eligible countries. On their return to the workplace, Australia Awards alumni are expected to contribute to the development of their home countries.
The evening was filled with success and celebration around the theme of Australia and Africa working together, rising to the challenges of the African continent. Business matching was also central to the evening’s activities with a number of new and exciting ventures emerging.
Ducere CEO, Mat Jacobson and Mary Faraone, CEO of Holmesglen presented a $10,000 Ducere Scholarship. Di Fleming, Executive Director of Ducere Foundation and President of the Australia Africa Business Council (Vic) also presented a number of awards in the art and design sector.
Congratulations to all those who attended, presented and were awarded for their Africa Australian spirit.
